Rail weighbridges can generally be divided into static rail weighbridges and dynamic rail weighbridges based on the weighing condition of the railway vehicle. A static rail weighbridge measures the weight of a railway vehicle and its cargo while the vehicle is stationary on the weighing platform. Compared with dynamic rail weighbridges, static rail weighbridges generally provide higher weighing accuracy and are widely used in industries such as metallurgy, coal, power generation, petroleum, and chemicals.
With the development of load cells, electronic weighing, and computer technologies, static electronic rail weighbridges have gradually replaced traditional mechanical rail weighbridges. Modern static electronic rail weighbridges feature a relatively simple structure, easy operation, fast weighing, clear data display, and convenient data management. To maintain stable weighing performance, the inspection and adjustment of eccentric load errors are important parts of rail weighbridge verification and maintenance.
1. Main Components of a Static Electronic Rail Weighbridge
A static electronic rail weighbridge mainly consists of mechanical components, electrical components, and a data processing system.
The mechanical components mainly include the weighing platform, rails, supporting structures, and load cells. The electrical components generally include the junction box, weighing indicator, and signal cables. The data processing system is responsible for collecting, processing, and displaying weighing data.
Among these components, load cells are essential parts of the rail weighbridge. The weight of the railway vehicle is transferred from the weighing platform to the load cells. The load cells then convert the applied load into electrical signals, which are processed by the weighing indicator and data processing system to obtain the final weighing result.
2. Inspection Before Verification
Before verifying the weighing errors of a rail weighbridge, the overall condition of the equipment should be inspected.
First, check whether the weighing indicator is operating properly, including its self-test, zero display, and automatic zeroing functions. Then inspect the weighing platform and rails to ensure that there are no abnormal contacts, interference, or other issues that could affect weighing.
The foundation, supporting points, fasteners, and limiting devices should also be checked to ensure that they are in proper condition. At the same time, the load cells should be inspected to confirm that they are receiving loads evenly. For newly installed rail weighbridges or those undergoing initial verification, the relevant parameters of the weighing indicator should also be checked to ensure that they meet the applicable requirements.
Only after these inspections have been completed should the eccentric load verification be carried out.
3. Eccentric Load Error Verification
Eccentric load error refers to the difference in the indicated weight when the same load is placed at different positions on the load receiver.
During verification, a verified standard load can be applied to different positions on the weighing platform, and the indicated values at each position are recorded. By comparing the weighing results from different positions, it is possible to determine whether the rail weighbridge has an eccentric load error.
If the indicated values at all test positions are within the allowable range, other verification procedures can be continued. If an excessive error is found at any position, the load cells, mechanical structure, junction box, and other relevant components should be further inspected, and appropriate adjustments should be made based on the test results.
Eccentric load verification not only evaluates the weighing performance of the rail weighbridge but can also help identify potential problems such as uneven load distribution among load cells or abnormalities in the supporting structure.
4. Adjustment of Eccentric Load Errors
The adjustment of eccentric load errors should be carried out according to the specific test results and should not be solved simply by changing the parameters of the weighing indicator.
If the error is relatively large, the installation height and load conditions of the load cells, as well as the mechanical structure, should first be inspected to determine whether there are problems with the supporting points or uneven loading of the load cells. For smaller errors, the junction box and related signal cables can be further inspected, and targeted adjustments can be made according to the results at different test positions.
During the adjustment process, each test position should be checked individually while continuously monitoring changes in the indicated values. After the adjustment is completed, the eccentric load test should be repeated to confirm that the weighing results at all positions remain stable.
If strong winds, rain, snow, or other conditions that may affect the verification process occur during testing, the verification should be suspended until the environmental conditions become suitable again.
